Outdoor Living Mastery 2025
A&D Equipment was thrilled to join other industry leaders at the 2025 Outdoor Living Mastery (OLM) event. OLM is a groundbreaking, multifaceted learning and building experience designed for elite landscape and hardscape professionals to refine their craft while making a meaningful impact on the local community.
OLM’s mission is to empower contractors with cutting-edge, hands-on education, equipping them with skills and knowledge to master their craft, maximize efficiency, and increase profitability – in just 5 days.
This February, the OLM took its teaching team, volunteers, and student participants to Gordonville, PA, to build out the exterior of their Community Care Center for children with disabilities.
“It was a great experience,” noted Tim. “I learned to be a coffee bean in a world of eggs and carrots. In boiling water, eggs get
hard, and carrots get soft – a coffee bean changes the environment.”

Feature Story: Unique Beginnings
The vision for Rotastar dates back 18 years to a brilliant innovator in the UK. Matt Lloyd, Founder and President of M Lloyd Engineering, recalls, “I had purchased an old railway line and embankment next to our works. We excavated the stone from the embankment for a new yard and workshop. While most of the stone was clean enough to use, some areas had too much soil mixed in.”
Leveraging his research and engineering expertise, Matt focused on designing and building a rotary screening attachment. Interestingly, his primary goal was simply to clean the stone. This necessity led to the development of Rotastar, a polyurethane star-mounted screening bucket.
“I was demonstrating the rotary bucket with a 20mm mesh, but prospective customers needed more productivity,” Matt explained. “Using polyurethane stars was a natural choice,” he added. “Mounting the shafts on an arc to replicate the material rotation of the trommel bucket became the key design feature. The first prototype needed minor modifications and was sold within a couple of months. That same bucket is still in use today.”
Back in the U.S., we were on a similar mission. Conventional excavating methods were expensive and time-consuming. The constant cycle of loading, transporting, paying dumping fees, purchasing new materials, and hauling them back was wasting both time and money. Most importantly, we were overlooking valuable materials already available on the job site. Our research took us in many directions, but ultimately, we landed in Lloyd’s innovative world of portable screening attachments.
A&D first introduced the Rotastar to the U.S. through our commercial excavating division in 2010. In just a short time we were saving money, tons of time, and recycling on every job site. We haven’t looked back since. And those first screening buckets we purchased from Matt? They’re still out there working in the field today.
